Woe to you scribes!

Who can fault a robot for doing exactly as it’s programmed? This one is painstakingly making a copy of the Torah at the pace of a human scribe, yet doing so in a practically perfect manner. How does this jive with the scribal regulations?

The Jewish Museum is one of the best museums I have visited in every way – its architecture does an incredible job communicating emptiness, emptiness caused by the cleansing of the Jews from Europe, its exhibits portray the plight of these people through European history from early on, and some of the sights are powerful in ways not even the concentration camps are. It’s not great just because it shows these things about the Jews, but because the curators and designers were so good at conveying their ideas.

It’s a place to go and think. A place to reflect and think. Think about going.
